Regular treks from St Arnaud to study in Warrnambool have paid off for Tom Hamilton after he was named South West TAFE Outstanding Apprentice of the Year.
The Northern Grampians Shire Council apprentice is based in St Arnaud and employed through Skillinvest in Horsham.
Mr Hamilton said it was nearly three hours drive from St Arnaud to Warrnambool, but it was worth the effort to get there.
“Horticulture trainee coordinator Trevor Bullen is so good and his wealth of knowledge from being in the industry really helped,” he said.
“The set-up at Sherwood Park is really good.”
Mr Hamilton attended five one-week training blocks at the South West TAFE Warrnambool campus as part of the apprenticeship.
