The Western Bulldogs launched their student leadership program with players visiting Ararat and Stawell on Monday.
The program was established in 2013 and has been expanded to the Ararat Rural City Council and Northern Grampians Shire Council in 2017.
The six month program offers opportunities to year nine and 10 students to build confidence, make new friendships and develop skills that will enable them to become future leaders within their community.
Western Bulldogs premiership player Liam Picken said it was important for kids to learn these skills early on in life.
“it is really important, because a lot of these kids are learning so much so quickly,” he said.
“Growing up in country areas, it is great to come back here and meet the young kids and share these skills with them.
“You have a lot of ups and downs in school and life, so to be able to help each other and lead by example is one of the important things they can learn to do.”
Applications are now open and will close on March 3.
