The Warriors took on Nhill Tigers and after recording a strong victory found themselves back in the top three.
With finals just around the corner, both teams came ready to play.
Warriors ran out winners 16.7(103) to Nhill 13.11(89).
Warriors kicked five unanswered goals in the first half to open up a handy lead.
Warriors coach Brad Thomas was pleased, but not 100 per cent satisfied.
“One down, three to go,” Thomas said.
“We have three weeks left of big games, this is just the first stage. We have a lot of work to do.”
Thomas said the Warriors’ skills were down and at times they fell away from the game plan.
“The majority of their score came from our turnovers,” Thomas said.
The game had some life about it going into the last quarter before a lull swept over Central Park.
Stawell Warriors power forward David Andrivon laid a hard tackle on Jordan Zeitz and an ambulance was required.
Later another ambulance was called for Nhill’s Grant McLeod.
The injuries rattled both teams, however, Warriors had done enough damage early to see them take the points.
Warriors were happy with their win, but said the two injuries that took place were unsettling.
“It was unfortunate that those two players went down,” Thomas said.
“It was a very awkward match, it just felt really weird out there.
“There was nothing it in, but we felt like we were in control.”
Jackson Dark proved he can do it at both ends of the ground.
Dark was sent forward and he provided a strong marking target for the Warriors midfielders.
Thomas described Dark’s game as the best game he has seen him play.
Along with Dark, Tom Eckel was once again a dominant player and Shane Field stepped up to fill the void of Jack Beaton.
Warriors take on Saints on Saturday.
