Dignan received a scholarship to attend the college through NSR for his outstanding achievements.
It was a tough process for Dignan and his family, but he was one of 20 successful applicants.
Dignan was ecstatic to be accepted and then be offered a position at West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
“I was one of about 350 at the trial,” Dignan said.
“I passed the trial and sat an interview on a separate occasion with NSR involving academics, golf and my life aspirations. I was then accepted into the program.”
Dignan said he was most looking forward to the opportunity to play golf at a higher level.
“I am most looking forward to being able to play college level golf in another country,” he said.
“I’m a bit nervous about leaving everyone behind in Australia, but I believe I will be fine once I’m over there and settled.”
Dignan plays at the Stawell Golf Club.
He was the winner of the B Grade championships last year and this year was runner-up to his coach Tim Coffey in A Grade.
It was a long waiting game to find out where Dignan would be heading, but he was happy to be going to live on campus at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, as it ranks as one of the best in the nation for engineering.
Dignan believes the most challenging aspect will be completing his engineering degree and balancing golf at the same time.
He has high ambitions with his golf and hopes to make it on the professional tour.
Dignan leaves Australia on August 11 and starts his studies on August 17.
