The SWANS project is nominated in the Department of Sustainability and Environment Water Efficiency Improvement Awards, with a quality group of finalists chosen by the judging panel from a strong field of 300 nominations.
The finalists will be presented and winners announced at an awards gala presentation dinner to be held at the All Seasons in Bendigo on Saturday and council will be represented.
Over the past 12 months Northern Grampians Shire Council has made several improvements to the water quality treatment ponds, storage dams and transfer infrastructure in the SWANS system.
The work undertaken has maximised both the capacity of the system's key transfer dam in Curtis Street and the efficiency of stormwater collection.
These improvements saw the SWANS system awarded the Water Efficiency category at the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria's 2012 Tidy Towns - Sustainable Community Awards.
