Great Western announced the signing of the defender/onballer and former Stawell assistant coach last week and is now on the lookout for players.
Lions president Rodney Matheson is upbeat about the club's recruiting prospects.
"We needed to get at least 10 senior players. We've probably seen that many, if not more. We're pretty confident of at least six or seven at the minute," Mr Matheson said, adding at this stage the Lions aren't aware of losing any players from season 2012.
Mr Matheson said it doesn't matter which league you are in, whether it be Horsham District or Mininera, it is hard to recruit players.
"You just have to put your facts on the table. Footballers are a fickle bunch when it comes to recruiting," he said.
"They just got to work out what they want to do."
Great Western has its annual general meeting at the beginning of next month and Mr Matheson has indicated he will be seeking a second season as club president.
"I'll put my hand up. If people want me to be (president), I'll be there. I would like to be - we'll see what happens."
In their first year in the Mininera and District Football League, Mr Matheson said the board probably expected a little bit more but he was generally happy with its performance.
"We got through the year basically. We were in the rebuilding phase and we did that. We probably had a lot of people who said it's our first year out of recess and we'll let it slide (playing-wise) but that's over now," Mr Matheson said.
"We've had 12 months and it's time now to put up or shut up."
