The group of students from grades five and six travelled to Horsham with their teacher Natalie Cooper and parent Kathryn Clayton to compete against students from other primary schools in the Wimmera at the Regional German Poetry Competition.
Not only did students have to learn a German poem by heart, they also had to recite it in front of an audience of 60 or more people.
After the recitations, all the students were treated to a German lunch before hearing the results of the competition.
Stawell Primary School enjoyed a successful day, scooping the medal pool in both the grade five and grade six categories.
Adele finished first, Laura second and Leilanie third in the grade six section, while Tahlia claimed first in the grade five category ahead of Olivia and Danieka.
The successful students have all now qualified to go onto the state competition to be held in Melbourne tomorrow at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg.
