The event is being held on Sunday, October 5 in Stawell.
You could also be in the running to win one of two pairs of new Saucony sneakers by posting a picture of your old, worn out shoes and getting the most 'likes' on the half marathon Facebook page.
It is hoped that the fun run and walk will raise $18,000 to purchase a state-of-the-art surgical microscope. The event is not only for a good cause, but will to be lots of fun and anyone can participate.
People of all ages and abilities can walk or run four kilometres, walk or run a seven kilometre team event or run the 21 kilometre half marathon.
The unique team event involves three team members running or walking seven kilometres each to make up a half marathon.
All team members run or walk at the same time and their individual times will be added together, the fastest combined time will win $150. This event is the first of its kind in our area.
"The team event is a great way to get involved with your family and friends," event organiser Jackie Peacock said.
"We cannot take entries on the day for the team event, so please make sure you enter online or at hospital early."
The new microscope will help surgeons perform examinations, treatments and ear, nose and throat surgeries. It will replace the old microscope which is more than 20 years old.
"Of course this type of event would not be a success without the generous support of local businesses and community and of course, our volunteers," Acting chief executive Liz McCourt said.
If you don't wish to run or walk but still want to be involved there are many jobs on the day, such as handling registrations, directing walkers and runners on the course, manning drink stations and much more.
If you are able to spare two or three hours, please contact Jackie Peacock on 5358 8585 or email jackie.peacock@srh.org.au
