The fun run/walk event, scheduled to be run this Sunday, August 10, was cancelled due to the low number of entries.
"The organisers are disappointed that this year's event will not go ahead, but we simply can't afford to cover operational costs, even with our amazing sponsorship support," Run for Russ founder, Jackie Peacock said.
"We thank everyone who did register to take part and those who have been out there actively promoting the event.
"We know that many people have been training for Run for Russ and that makes us so happy. We're glad we could influence some change. Please keep it up because the Stawell Regional Health fun run and walk will be held in October. You can go to their website for details."
Ms Peacock said that the $20,000 raised by the event in 2012 and 2013 would go towards creating information materials to be disseminated to the region's community.
"We are thrilled with the money raised during the past couple of years and really look forward to working with local health organisations to promote heart health and signs of a heart attack. That was always our ultimate goal."
Ms Peacock said registrations would be refunded and those who wanted to still donate to the cause or buy an event singlet should visit www.heartchallenge.com.au
