Rail celebration plans in full swing
THE arrival of rail to Avoca in 1876 was a turning point for the town and the wider Pyrenees region. A rail connection to the outside world allowed Avoca to thrive. As the 150th anniversary nears, the Avoca community is planning to celebrate this important milestone in conjunction with the Avoca Art Show weekend.
Volunteer Margaret Pilgrim said the arrival of rail transformed the Avoca district and is worth celebrating.
