Private patient left questioning value of health insurance
WHEN Amphitheatre resident Peter Jolly experienced what he feared could be a stroke earlier this year, he did not hesitate to call an ambulance. Like many Australians who pay for private health insurance, Mr Jolly believed he had done the right thing by maintaining comprehensive cover. In a frightening medical emergency, he expected his insurance would provide financial peace of mind. Instead, the experience left him facing hundreds of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses and questioning why, after spending tens of thousands of dollars on premiums over the years, he was still left significantly out of pocket.
