Starting at the Goldfields Recreation Reserve, the course took runners through the Trawalla State Forest over quite a challenging course.

Laura and Gus Martin, owners of the Shed Gym in Ballarat, were the organisers of the event.

Gus, a keen trail runner, had run some of the trails through the local bush and felt it was a great location for a challenging event.

Laura and Gus designed a series of runs that catered for a range of distances.

They say they were pleased with the number of entrants across the range of distances.

“In total 149 people took part in the event, with 25 in the 50km event, 54 in the 25km, 61 in the 10km and 9 in the 5km. We also had a 2km run for the younger runners,” Gus said.

There were many runners from Beaufort, but also from Ballarat, Ararat and some from Melbourne.           Laura indicated that they had received a great deal of support from Pyrenees Shire in planning and organising the event and with assistance to secure a tourism grant.
Laura and Gus hope that this event may be the first of many in the years ahead.
