Halls Gap Neighbourhood house is buzzing
HALLS Gap Neighbourhood House continues to offer opportunities for locals to connect, learn and create together.
The Neighbourhood House attracts people from across the region, including Halls Gap, Pomonal, Ararat and Stawell and Manager Alison Bainbridge said the regular program has something for everyone.
The timetable includes gentle exercise, coffee catch-ups, craft, Qi Gong and Dancing in the Dark.
Alison said the craft group has been so popular that participants have even requested longer sessions.
“I said, well, if you want it all day, you can have it all day if you want to,’” she said, recognising that the social aspect of the various groups and workshops has been a definite draw card for many attendees.
This year, thanks to an arts grant, the centre has also hosted a series of workshops.
“Because of the fires, it became more important to do this little bit of community arts,” Alison explained.
From weaving and bunting the workshops have not only brought people together but also been a change to liven up Halls Gap with many of the pieces being put up as art installations, with some currently being created for the next creative installation.
“At the moment, it’s the giant insects, which look fantastic. We’ve involved the school kids with that one as well.” while these creatively made critters are still under construction at the moment its been a great chance for the Neighbourhood House to reach out and include the wider community.
For those wanting to get involved, the next giant bug workshop will be held at Halls Gap Centenary Hall on Saturday, 20th, from 11am with artist Mary French.
For updates on programs and workshops, Alison encourages locals to check the Halls Gap Neighbourhood House Facebook page.
