Gardens on show today
THE annual open gardens program run by the Ararat Retirement Village Auxiliary will feature five stunning gardens today (Sunday). Three private gardens as well as the Ararat Cemetery Garden and Ararat Community Garden will open their gates from 10am to 4pm. Amongst the gardens on show is the incredible native garden on Peter and Leesa Waterman property at Rocky Point. The couple have lived at the property since 1993, but had to rebuild their home and garden after it was lost in a bushfire in 2015.

“By 2016 we had rebuilt an energy efficient house for two, with room for visitors. The garden came next with natives. It was meant to be simple and require no or minimal water,” Leesa said.
Two other private gardens in Ararat township will also be open to the public as well as the Ararat Community Garden and the Ararat Cemetery Trust garden.
All five gardens will be open from 10am to 4pm today, Sunday the 2nd of November, with Devonshire Tea served at the Waterman’s Rocky Point garden.
A plant stall will also be held for people visiting the cemetery garden.
Admission is $20 per person with tickets on sale at the Viewpoint Street and Banfield Street gardens.
