Everyday hero
By Pyrenees Advocate reader Julie Edwards. AS I went on my nightly walk, I witnessed a heart-warming act of community spirit unfold when a local man, Chris Johnston, came to the aid of a stranded truck driver. A B-double had broken down at the town’s traffic lights, creating a dangerous situation as other trucks swerved to avoid it. Without hesitation, Chris stepped forward, using his ute, yes his ute, to tow the loaded 40-tonne truck out of harm’s way. His quick thinking and decisive action prevented a potential accident and highlighted the generosity and initiative that define our wonderful community. It’s moments like these that remind us what a special place Beaufort truly is - where people look out for one another without expecting recognition. Not all heroes wear capes — some drive white utes. And in this case, that hero was Chris, who helped avert a very dangerous situation. Maybe it’s time you went into the heavy haulage business, Chris!
