EmpowerEd: Free Online Support for Regional Teachers

Country Therapy is excited to announce EmpowerEd, a free online program supporting teachers across Western rural and regional Victoria to build practical skills for working with students living with disability. Delivered entirely online for accessibility and flexibility, the program offers 10 targeted topics to choose from, which can be delivered in any order to suit the immediate needs of participating teachers.

Our full menu of session topics available below, covers key areas such as emotional regulation, classroom strategies, motor development, and inclusive participation. Each session is designed for immediate classroom application and is shaped through close collaboration with regional schools and teachers. This ensures the content reflects the real challenges educators face while highlighting Country Therapy’s commitment to supporting local communities.
At its core, EmpowerEd is driven by a simple belief: when teachers are better supported, students benefit. The program recognizes that every classroom is unique, and that teachers are often navigating complex student needs with limited resources. By delivering practical, hands-on strategies through an accessible online format and allowing educators to prioritise the topics most relevant to them, EmpowerEd helps teachers feel more confident and capable in their daily work, creating a ripple effect that reaches students, families, and the wider school community.

Rebecca, our lead Occupational Therapist and primary educator for the program, explains, "In today’s environment, teachers need all the support they can get. With the increasing number of children experiencing behavioural, intellectual, and mental health challenges, many educators aren’t always given the tools they need to best support these students. I feel it's our duty and responsibility as OTs and as human beings to help the people around us who need it."

Her words highlight an often-overlooked truth: teaching is not just about delivering curriculum; it is about responding to the diverse and complex needs of children in real time. Teachers in regional communities may face isolation, resource limitations, and pressures that can make this work feel overwhelming. By offering this program online, EmpowerEd removes barriers of distance and travel, ensuring educators can access support wherever they are. It steps into this gap, offering both practical strategies and a sense of solidarity, letting educators know they are not alone in meeting these challenges.

“A big part of what makes EmpowerEd meaningful is that we run it free of charge. It reflects our genuine commitment to supporting local communities and improving the day-to-day lives of the children within them." By removing financial and geographic barriers, the program ensures that every teacher, regardless of school budget or location, can access the professional development they need to make a real difference in their classrooms.

Our focus on regional communities comes from personal experience. Many members of our staff grew up in rural Victoria and understand the joys and challenges of life outside metropolitan areas. This lived experience drives a determination to give back to the communities that shaped them. Over the long term, the goal is to release EmpowerEd across all of Victoria, with current internal logistics being the only factor limiting wider implementation.

EmpowerEd is more than professional development. It is an investment in teachers, students, and communities. It embodies a belief that meaningful change in education begins with supporting those on the front lines. When teachers feel empowered, students with disability are given the opportunity to participate fully, learn effectively, and feel understood in ways that profoundly affect their lives.

Ultimately, EmpowerEd is a testament to the power of collaboration and community. By bringing together educators, therapists, and local schools in an online environment, the program creates spaces for learning, sharing, and growth. It reminds us that supporting teachers is not just a professional obligation, it is a moral one. Because when teachers thrive, their students thrive, and entire communities benefit.

We are looking to expand this program into more classrooms across the Northern Grampians Shire, Ararat Rural City, and Pyrenees Shire. If you have a child who would benefit from EmpowerEd, or if you’re a teacher and want to see this program implemented in your school, please contact Country Therapy to learn more:
