Dog park gets state funding
Ararat Rural City Council’s wish to build a second dog park for larger dogs has been given a boost with funding from the Victorian Government.

Ararat Rural City Council’s wish to build a second dog park for larger dogs has been given a boost with funding from the Victorian Government.
Member for Ripon Martha Haylett was in Ararat yesterday to announce the state has approved $100,000 towards the establishment of an enclosed dog park at Centenary Park.
The new dog park will be substantially larger than the other dog park in Vincent Street.
Feedback received by council regarding the Vincent Street Dog Park has been positive, although owners of larger breeds complained it wasn’t big enough for their dogs to have a proper run.
Ms Haylett said she was pleased the Government will invest in more public facilities for Ararat residents.
“This is funding the Government has provided through the Department of Environment, Climate and Energy. We’ve got $300,000 for dog parks in Beaufort, Maryborough and here in Ararat,” she said.
“We want to make sure our parks are more secure for dogs and that we have more family friendly facilities.
“People love their dogs and want to keep them safe so these facilities will mean there is more fencing, water stations and really nice facilities for dogs and their owners in Ararat. It’s a good win for Ararat,” Ms Haylett said.
Mayor Jo Armstrong said the funding would be welcomed by dog owners.
“It’s great to have another option for dog owners to get out and for dogs to socialise and for dog owners to meet one another and form new relationships as well,” she said.
“This (Centenary Park) is a big plot of land and this dog park will enhance the neighbourhood amenity.”
