Combine claim win on the back of Marrow’s maiden ton
A maiden century by Zachary Marrow has helped guide Swifts-Great Western to a strong win over Lubeck Murtoa at Central Park in round six of the Horsham Cricket Association.
After winning the toss and batting first, SGW scored 7/231 off their 40 overs with Marrow scoring a run-a-ball 109. Max McMahon and Aiden Graveson also contributed with 39 and 30 runs, respectively.
In defence of their total, Wil Clough and Sam Wells bowled tight, not allowing the Mudlarks batters any comfort, claiming the first three wickets between them to have the Mudlarks reeling at 3/30.
The Mudlarks bounced back in the middle overs, but regular wickets, including two to Jayden McCartney, ensured they wouldn’t find any long-term momentum.
Despite trying their best, the Mudlarks were unable to reel in the total, finishing at 9/198, just 34 runs shy of the total.
Wil Clough was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/32 (8), while Jayden McCartney finished with 2/47 (8). Marrow also picked up a wicket, finishing with 1/45 (8).
The B-Grade, meanwhile, stormed to a comfortable eight-wicket win, thrashing St Marys.
After losing the toss and bowling, the Combine bowled St Marys out for 42 in the 31st over.
Emmanuel Kuriayan Joseph and Matthew Dean starred for the combine with 3/13 (7.3), and 3/8 (8), respectively.
Despite losing Matthew Dean and Jack Harney early, the combine had no trouble chasing the total down, finishing at 2/44 off just 7.4 overs with Rick Oliver top scorer with 27 off 18 balls.
The C-Grade had the bye.
Tomorrow, two-day cricket begins with the A-Grade playing West Wimmera Warriors at Central Park and the B-Grade playing the Bullants at Noradjuha Recreation Reserve.
The C-Grade hosts Rhymney Moyston in a one-day match at Great Western Recreation Reserve.
