Chopper called in for Pinnacle rescue

CREW members from Stawell’s State Emergency Service branch had a busy day last Saturday 25th October, with what started out as a fun day out interacting with the public turning into a busy day serving the community. The SES had an impressive display set up at Laidlaw Park for the Stawell Show, with several emergency vehicles on hand as well as a tent full of information about what SES does, as well as emergency safety information. A call came through about an injured hiker in the Grampians National Park, so SES crews members sprang into action, joining Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police to coordinate a rescue on the Pinnacle trail. The Pinnacle is a popular tourist attraction but is also notorious for bringing hikers unstuck, with emergency services called to the location countless times each summer. A Helicopter Emergency Medical Service chopper was called in to winch the injured hiker to safety, saving crews what would have been a slow and slippery carry out without the helicopter. Stawell SES then responded to a call about a damaged building in Pomonal on Saturday following the rescue effort in the Grampians, rounding out a long day for the volunteer crews who dedicate so much time to helping their community.
