CFA members train to save lives
LOCAL residents have good reason to feel safer in the event of a fire, now that members of the Willaura and Halls Gap CFA brigades have completed a two-day breathing apparatus training program.
The course provided volunteers with the skills needed to safely work in oxygen deficient atmospheres, such as confined spaces, or where smoke, hazardous gases and vapours may be present.
Willaura Brigade Training Officer Matias Fuentes said it was an important course for members to complete.
“This is a very important accomplishment, since it allows these BA qualified members to combat fires where a regular firefighter could not.
“At Willaura, we believe in training as much as possible so we can be efficient and reliable when things get tough.
“We understand that if we train hard and are constantly learning about firefighting techniques, tragedies can be avoided. We are proud to serve the community,” he said.
The CFA is urging residents to become better prepared to protect themselves and their properties and this upgrade in skills shows our brigade members are doing the same.
