Beaufort students embrace Plastic Free July
AS part of their commitment to Plastic Free July, Beaufort Primary School students are taking steps to reduce plastic waste by embracing a new Choose Tap water fountain, installed in partnership between Central Highlands Water and the Pyrenees Shire Council.
Plastic Free July is a global movement that empowers millions of people to be part of the solution to plastic pollution by creating cleaner streets, oceans, and communities.
At Beaufort Primary School, students are now opting to refill reusable water bottles rather than using single-use plastic bottles.
This small but impactful change is already reducing waste, supporting the environment, and encouraging healthy hydration habits.
Plastic Free July inspires individuals, schools, and communities to reconsider their plastic use and take simple actions that create lasting environmental benefits.
By choosing tap water, Beaufort Primary students are stepping up as sustainability leaders within their community.
CHW says it is committed to caring for the environment, by taking meaningful action to protect and enhance natural ecosystems, as well as reducing environmental impact and reinforcing the dedication to long-term sustainability.
Managing Director Jeff Haydon said the organisation is proud to support Beaufort Primary School in making sustainable choices as part of Plastic Free July.
“By encouraging students to Choose Tap water and reduce single-use plastics, we’re not only promoting healthy habits but also fostering a generation of environmental stewards.
“This valuable community asset has been made possible through our strong partnership with the Pyrenees Shire Council."
Mayor Cr Tanya Kehoe said council is pleased to partner with Central Highlands Water on the initiative.
“(An initiative) that will benefit not only young people in our community, but also our environment.
“A Choose Tap water fountain will be a great health and environmental asset to Beaufort Primary School and particularly in light of its commitment to Plastic Free July,” Cr Kehoe said.
