Baird leads Marnoo to victory

Nic Baird helped guide Marnoo to their fourth victory in round five of the Wimmera Mallee Cricket Association with a handy innings of 57 against Birchip at Birchip Recreation Reserve.

Birchip won the toss and elected to bowl, and Marnoo made use of conditions, scoring 5/187 off their 40 overs.  

Jimmy Duxson and Nic Baird put on a solid 40-run partnership after Brylie Cameron was dismissed for nine, and when Duxson fell for 32, Angus Bade and Baird put on an additional 77 runs, as Marnoo looked to put on a solid total.  

Baird fell for 57, and Bade for 31 and with the help of Daniel Schaper and Darcy Cameron, with an unbeaten 24 and 20, respectively, Marnoo finished with a strong total. 

In reply, despite losing Mark Trollope for a duck, Birchip made a great game of it with Hudson McCredden and Connor Lee scoring 27 and 34 respectively. 

Marnoo’s bowling, however, was too strong, claiming regular wickets to bowl Birchip out for 112 in the 28th over.  

Benjamin Newton was the pick of the bowlers for Marnoo with 4/23 (6), while Darcy Cameron 3/16 (8), and Jimmy Duxson 3/20 (6.4) also bowled well.

In the other match, St Arnaud lost to Watchem by 104 runs. St Arnaud won the toss and elected to bowl, and 127 runs to Daniel Tatarskyj saw Watchem score 218.  

Lachlan Patching was the pick of the bowlers for St Arnaud with 4/29 (8).  

In reply, St Arnaud were bowled out for 114 in the 35th over with Kynan Torney and Brad McKinnon starring with 29 and 35 runs, respectively.  

Charlton forfeited to Southern Mallee Giants in the other match. 

Tomorrow, Marnoo hosts St Arnaud in a mouth-watering clash, the Giants host Birchip, and Watchem hosts Charlton.
