Avoca Golf Club hosts auction for cancer research
AVOCA Golf Club recently hosted its annual Anti-Cancer Charity Night, raising an impressive $3,669.50 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute. With almost one in two Australian men and women diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, supporting vital research and community programs through the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute remains at the heart of the club’s fundraising auction.

The event once again highlighted the generosity of the local community and its commitment to backing important causes.
Now in its fourth year, the much-loved fundraiser continues to grow, with strong support from members and the wider community.
The night also featured a few rounds of twilight golf and bowls, which introduced a bit of friendly competition into the evening.
Club president Lorraine Gollop said the evening was another success for the club.
“It was great. Everybody just brings in an item, a jar of relish, a pot of honey, a garden blower, photo frames, flowers, anything,” Ms Gollop said.
With 85 people attending, Ms Gollop was impressed by the outpour of support, whether it was for the social aspect of the night or the friendly bidding war,
“I don’t think we’ve raised that much money before. We got a lot of extra people coming in and just play bowls to be a part of the night.”
