And on a smaller scale, but no less important the Victorian Fisheries Authority was not stocking any fish into one of Halls Gap's most popular bodies of water.
But in the last 20 years much has changed.
10 years later there was 10,000 rainbow trout stocked into the impoundment and in 2021 200,000 fish will call the lake home.
There will be a range of new residents including 30,000 rainbow trout, 20,000 brown trout, 100,000 golden perch and 50,000 murray cod.

On Wednesday October 20 the Victorian Fisheries Authority continued their efforts to stock the lake, with 10,000 rainbow trout fingerlings introduced to the waters.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority also continued on their path to complete their record-breaking effort to stock 10 million fish by April 2022 with more fish released at Tooliorook Lake.
Tooliorook Lake received with 30,000 rainbow fry, which are an additionally inclusion to the lake on top of the Victorian Fisheries Authority's planned yearling trout stockings for Tooliorook in 2021.
