Wimmera people have an opportunity to do just that when Parliament House in Melbourne opens its doors on Sunday.

Member for Lowan Emma Kealy said the free event gave people a chance to explore areas not normally open to the public.

She said visitors would be able to see musical performances in the Queen’s Hall, sit in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Chamber, and visit the Parliamentary Library.

The committee room, speakers’ and members’ offices will also be open, along with the dining room and gardens.

“The architecture of Parliament House, especially the Legislative Council chamber, is quite remarkable,” she said.

“Over the years there have been refurbishments to Parliament House, but the Council Chamber remains one of the best examples of the style of building of its time and is well worth a visit.

“This is a great opportunity for Victorians to see their parliament and to gain an appreciation of the grandeur of the building.”

The open day will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
