Road works are ongoing in several places along the 26.5 kilometre section with traffic confined to one lane each way and speed restrictions in place for several weeks due to the worsening road surface.
VicRoads north western projects director Nigel Powers said this section of work was almost complete however further work was required on a section near Beaufort.
“We have been working with the contractor to understand why the recently constructed section between Burrumbeet and Beaufort suffered some deterioration,” he said.
“We share the public’s disappointment that this recently constructed section of the duplication has suffered some surfacing failures.
“The contractor has met the full cost of the repairs for the 23.5km section it constructed.”
Mr Powers said VicRoads would start work in early March repairing a 3km section of the Western Highway between Box Track and Beaufort-Carngham Road.
These works are expected to be carried out over a two-to-three week period.
“These works will require land closures of up to 3km in length with a reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour,” Mr Powers said.
“However we will undertake every effort to ensure delays are minimised.”
Mr Powers apologised for the ongoing disruption to the public.
“We understand that it is frustrating for drivers but we need to ensure this road is repaired to meet not only our standards, but the expectations of the travelling public,” he said.
VicRoads expects the repair work to be completed by the end of March.
