The North Park upgrades follows a $100,000 grant to improve the recreation reserve.
Preliminary plans for the upgraded amenities block show an increased number of public toilets, along with dedicated changing rooms for female teams and changing rooms for umpires and other officials.
The council’s representative on the Stawell Recreation Advisory Group, Cr Murray Emerson, said consultation with the community would play a bit part in the planning and construction process.
“At the end of the day, these are the people who use these facilities on a regular basis, and have a strong understanding of what is required in order to provide the best possible outcome for the community,” Cr Emerson said.
The Lord Nelson Park will also have a different look to it in coming weeks with the netball courts set to get a new surface to improve the safety of players during the winter months.
The works have already started with the project to be completed before the start of the season.
Council mayor Tony Driscoll said the resurfacing works are another demonstration of Council’s commitment to improving local residents’ access to high-class recreation opportunities and infrastructure.
“By offering access to a vastly improved, far safer netball court at Lord Nelson Park, we are not just giving people the chance to play netball - we are giving them the opportunity to forge those bonds, meet new people and improve their overall wellbeing,” he said. The old courts will be removed before levelling and new courts are put in.
