West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has confirmed he will join the prime minister and other national leaders on a trip to the United States.

During the five-day visit late this month, Mr McGowan will address the National Governors Association winter meeting in Washington DC.

He will also hold meetings to highlight WA's capacity as a supplier, manufacturer and repairer for the defence sector, and meet with US navy secretary Richard V Spencer to encourage more ship visits to WA.

Mr McGowan will then spend two days in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates where he will meet with major resource, education and tourism providers.
