The ‘Water Planning for Improved Grazing Management and Farm Resilience’ workshop will be held at Ararat Shire Hall on 21st and 28th February 2018.

Graziers who want to better understand their farm water requirements and identify ways to improve grazing management are invited to take part in a two-day farm water planning workshop.

The workshop will be facilitated by Agriculture Victoria and is scheduled to run in Ararat on February 21 and 28.

Agriculture Victoria Land Management Extension Officer Heather Field said the workshop would step growers through the process of designing an efficient farm water system.

“Having a well-designed water supply system and an effective grazing management plan are critical elements of a productive grazing enterprise” she said.

Topics covered during the workshop include:

  • How to calculate current and future water requirements for your farm
  • Water supply limitations and options to improve farm water security
  • Basic water reticulation principles
  • Grazing for pasture persistence in low rainfall environments
  • Water placement for improved pasture persistence and utilisation
  • Developing farm water and grazing plans using a simple online mapping tool

Ms Field said that farmers at the workshop will be provided with the knowledge and tools to start planning an efficient farm water reticulation system and build grazing management skills for enhanced pasture persistence.

The ‘Water Planning for Improved Grazing Management and Farm Resilience’ workshop will be held at Ararat Shire Hall on 21st and 28th February 2018.
