The Austy Coffey-trained gelding was the overwhelming favourite in the six-horse race as he went on to record his sixth win in eight starts.

The victory extends Vianden’s total domination of country cup races this season, taking his tally to five.

The six-year-old started the run by winning the Wycheproof Cup in November before claiming his second consecutive Nhill cup on Boxing Day.

Less than one week after his win at Nhill he took home the Burrumbeet Cup on New Years Day.

His fourth cup win came at Hanging Rock on Australia Day on Friday before he made his way to Great Western for cup win number five for the season.

Winning trainer Austy Coffey said it is hard to believe how his horse continues to win at country cups.

“We were very excited to win at Great Western,” he said.

“We were in two minds whether he should race since it was so hot and he had raced just a few days before but lucky for us our decision paid off.

“He is a winner and wants to win every time he races.”

Doug Whitworth was Stawell’s only winner for the day, with Milwaukee Brave finishing first in race three.

Despite the warm conditions the track helped up strongly, drawing compliments as to how well it raced.

“Terry O’Sullivan said he couldn’t believe how good the track was,” Barry said.

“We even got an offer from Darren Weir for him to gallop some of his horses at our track which is a great honour.”
