Kyrgios has performed brilliantly thus far in the Australian summer, and has drawn praise from several tennis greats about his on-court transformation.

But Agassi, who is coaching six-time Melbourne Park champion Novak Djokovic, believes Krygios can only take himself so far without help.

"I'm a big believer in life, and what I've learned is that learning in 10 minutes would take someone (by themselves) 10 years is a very effective way to maximize the short window that you get in this sport.

"To go it alone and not get access to things tried and lessons learned is an unforced error. But having no coach is better than having the wrong coach."

Kyrgios has already indicated that he will remain without a coach for the 2018 season, after parting ways with Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean early last year.

The 22-year-old believes he is maturing with every match after taking out his first title on home soil in the recent Brisbane International.

He fought off adversity by the truckload in his second round win over Serbian Victori Troicki, including an unruly patron, a helicopter and a dodgy PA system.

Agassi, who is a global tennis ambassador for Lavazza, believes a coach will only unlock more potential in Kyrgios.

"I would imagine that there would be a lot of people that would take a great deal of pride in coaching him just based on his talent alone.

"If I was him, I would sit down in a room somewhere and put some deep thought into whom might bring to the table something that I may feel I need that I don't have.

"I always surround myself by knowing my weaknesses and filling those gaps. You do it business, you do it in life, and doing it on the tennis court, I would highly suggest that to anybody."

Agassi was speaking as a heatwave tore through Melbourne and debate raged over whether play should be allowed to continue in smouldering temperatures.

He watched on from the player's box as Djokovic battled an ailing Gael Monfils in scorching heat, eventually prevailing in four sets.

Throughout his playing career Agassi earned the nickname "the punisher" for his love of playing in the heat, believing he was physically and mentally fitter than his opponent when conditions became tough.

And whilst he doesn't hide away from that, Agassi says the way he views things has now changed.

"You have to look at strengths and weaknesses through the lens of who you're helping," he said.

"(Novak) does have the ability to cover a lot of real estate, sometimes unnecessarily. So I do worry about the heat on his behalf because it's hot and he's gonna get to the ball when you hit it."

And while he believes there should be rules around extreme heat, Agassi says players need to take personal responsibility for their health.

"I think that there has to be a line somewhere where you know there's going to be a physical health concern but we all are charged with managing our own body.

"You should know the signs of heat stroke.

"For me, I wanted it and that's no disrespect to what these players have to go through. But I did want it, because it helped me."
