Stawell’s entire 2018 senior squad is expected to meet for the first time as they hike across the Grampians, ending up at Lake Fyans.
Stawell coach Colin Macaffer said it will be a good opportunity for his whole playing list to get together in the one place.
“It is all about bonding and starting off our pre-season so our players know what is required for the year ahead,” he said.
“It will be an opportunity for some of our players from Melbourne like new signing John McIntyre to come down and get a chance to become entrenched with the group.”
The squad will also vote on its leadership group and elect a captain to lead the side in 2018 at a team meeting following the training session.
Macaffer said the players will also discuss their expectations for the year ahead.
“We will get the players to ratify what we believe which is very important to us,” he said.
“I have been very impressed by the attitude of the players.”
The Warriors resumed training on Monday this week.
Stawell and Ararat will have the shortest pre-seasons of all WImmera league clubs, with their first match on Good Friday on March 30.
Macaffer said his players are in good shape as the season approaches.
“Most of the senior guys did a fair bit of training before Christmas so they didn’t lose much fitness over the break,” he said.
“Since we start earlier than most teams it is crucial for us to make sure we get back into the swing of things quickly.”
