A hay stack fire at a Campbells Bridge paddock burned for almost 24 hours before being completely extinguished.
The fire started about 2pm on Monday and the scene off Stawell-Donald Road was declared safe after midday on Tuesday.
Ararat CFA District 16 duty officer Malcolm McKenzie Bruce said the fire was sparked by a spontaneous combustion.
“When stacking hay you always need to make sure there is room for air flow, otherwise the stacks can heat up,” he said.
