In the other under 16.5 match, the Dunmunkle Renegades took on the West Wimmera side at the Dimboola Road Oval.
And a close affair it is proving to be, with just 14 runs separating the two teams as we gear up for day two on Saturday.
The Renegades will go in at 3/76, with Blake Turner top scoring on 39 and Logan Petering making 13.
They will look to Bailey Young, who remains not-out on 7, to get their innings moving.
Josh Lees, Shanae Alexander and Josiah Mock took a wicket each for West Wimmera. When West Wimmera batted they made 3/90.
Josh Lees again displayed his talents with 49 not-out and could get another hit later in the innings.
Josiah Mock made 13 and Tom Harris made 10.
For the Renegades, the three-wicket takers were Jordan Delahunty, Nic Ballagh and Logan Petering.
In a tight affair at Taylors Lake, the Saints under 14s prevailed in a close match to take the points against Renegades Black by just seven runs, 3/89 to 7/82.
Andrew Taylor and Saxon Souness both retired on 17 and Dylan Avery smashed a quick 16.
In the field, they had a spread of wicket takers with Ryan Amin, Harry Freak, James Slatter all bagging two scalps each.
Georgia Baker-Miller also snared her first ever wicket, with 1/0 from her two overs.
When the Renegades Black side took to the crease, it was their top order that starred.
Nic Ballagh made 12 before he was dismissed.
Deacon Campbell retired on 14 and Oscar Gawith retired on 16.
Best with the ball for the visitors were Deacon Campbell, Paddy Rabl and Archie Gawith, all notching a wicket apiece.
The game at Sunnyside between Homers Red and Homers White was washed out, as was the clash at the Lutheran Oval between Homers Blue and Laharum.
If the wonderful game of cricket has an enemy, it is surely the good stuff that falls from the sky.
While any rainfall is usually welcome, I can speak for our young cricketers and wish it would fall earlier in the week.
That way it wouldn’t interrupt our weekend matches, which are so eagerly looked forward to by all our young cricketers.
