I Am The Dark finished third in the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final at Flemington on Thursday, taking home $18,000 in prize money.
The five-year-old gelding finished four lengths behind Darren Weir’s Another Coldie, who took home the massive prize money of $110,000.
Weir also took out second place with Night’s Watch.
Whitworth said he was “proud” of the horse despite getting outdone by the two Weir horses.
“There was a fair amount of early speed in the race which hampered his chances. It meant he couldn’t dictate the speed,” he said.
“Darren’s two horses which won the quinella were very good and look promising for the future.”
“We will give him (I Am The Dark) a run at Moonee Valley on Friday night then he will have a break.”
Paul Jones’ horse Barry the Baptist finished 11th.
