The Step UP! for Down syndrome event was at Horsham’s May Park and aimed to raise awareness of people’s abilities and accomplishments.
Wimmera Down Syndrome Support Group runs the event every two years.
Group president Astrid O’Connor she was blown away by the level of support the event received.
“We had much more people involved than last time and we had 36 raffle prizes to give away,” she said.
“It was overwhelming – we were blown away by the number of businesses who donated prizes.”
The walk went from the park, to the Horsham Racecourse and back. The day also included a barbecue, games and activities at May Park.
“We had people come from Donald and Ballarat for the event,” Ms O’Connor said.
“It was a great opportunity for our children to be around others with Down syndrome.”
Ms O’Connor said all the money raised during the day stayed with the Wimmera support group.
