In a tough season for the Warriors’ top netball team, Fleming was a standout in the Stawell’s defensive goal circle.
Fleming polled 49 votes to win the award.
Tarnee Orr was not far behind, recording 44 votes to finish as the runner-up.
“It was pretty exciting to win,” Fleming said.
“It was really close. Tarnee probably would have caught me if there were a few more games.”
Versatile netballer Ebony Summers picked up the coach’s award, while Maggie Clough took home the 18 and under encouragement award.
Fleming said despite the A Grade team not winning a game in 2017 it has been a good season of development.
“We worked out our average age at A grade was about 18 and a half,” she said.
“We developed our younger players which was a positive. We played a lot better this year than what our record suggests.”
