Players competed for a range of prizes and for the opportunity to advance to the state championships held in Melbourne.
It was a team of golfers from a variation of clubs that won on the day.
Creswick’s Bevan Morton (0), Ballarat’s Kelly Lyle (2) and Mt Xavier’s David (19) and Jackson Connor (33) scored a 55 2/8 to become champions.
Rokewood’s Ashley Hadler (10), Shaun McArthur (13), Lewis Alexopoulos (17) and Ross Hadler (24) finished in second place with a score of 58.
Third place went to a Stawell team consisting of Matt Dalton (6), Jason Ohayon (10), Col Apelgren (21) and Greg Clode (27) with a score of 59.
Stawell’s Josh Kelly (7), Jeff Savage (10), Michael Kelly (12) and Grampians golfer Bailey Borgmeyer (20) finished fourth after scoring 59 7/8.
Stawell Golf Club secretary Jan Alborough said the club received positive feedback about the event.
“It was very successful,” she said.
“Everyone thought it was very good day.
“The course was still a little bit wet from the rain but people enjoyed the day, the course and the hospitality.
“The club made quite a good profit as well.”
Alborough said the club is hopeful of making the event even bigger next year.
“Hopefully next year we can get more teams and make the day even more successful,” she said.
The club held its monthly medal the week prior to the Holden Scramble, with Peter Homden winning his first medal.
Homden shot an 87, reduced to 72 after applying his handicap of 15.
The golf course has been in high demand recently, having also hosted the Wimmera District final of the Royal Women's Hospital four ball best ball stableford last week.
Stawell’s Kaye Skinner (19) & Dot Russell (27) shot 36 points to defeat Kaniva’s Glennis Sampson (40) & Donna Vivian (42) on a countback.
The club’s greens are in the process of being cored to keep them in top condition.
Alborough said the club is in a strong position going into summer.
“The course is drying out nicely after a fair bit of rain,” she said.
“With all the rain we are in a fairly healthy position going into summer.”
The club hosted it’s ladies annual general meeting on Wednesday, September 20, with Carole McKendrick elected as the new ladies captain.
