The piece was designed by the members of Juno Vesta, a support group for local LGBTQI people.
The rainbow coloured piece highlights Grampians Community Health’s dedication as a Rainbow Tick accredited organisation.
The Rainbow Tick accreditation is provided to organisations that have shown a commitment to caring for the wellbeing of LGBTQI people in the community.
Grampians Community Health has developed Rainbow committee to specifically help any LGBTQI people with any issues they may be having.
Chair of the Rainbow committee Gemma Beavis said it is important to provide an avenue of support.
“As a leading health organisation in the region, we take very seriously our duty to support equality for all and provide support to some of the most marginalised groups in our community,” she said.
“We also understand that people in the LGBTQI community are more likely to experience and be diagnosed with a mental health disorder and be susceptible to discrimination and exclusion in their community.”
LGBTI people are nearly three times as likely to suffer depression in their lifetime.
The Grampians Community Health Rainbow committee members have knowledge of the issues faced by LGBTQI Australians and are available to speak with for consultations at any time.
Members of the community have already been utilising the resources that the Rainbow committee provides.
Grampians Community Health provides access to social support groups across the district for young people under the age of 25.
