The Stawell Golf Club cancelled this week’s events due to wet conditions.
The clubs match committee abandoned Tuesday’s R&B event as well as Wednesday’s weekly ladies golf competition.
Play commenced as usual on Saturday for the first round of the Winter Championships, but poor weather since has led to the decision to stop this weeks events.
Leigthon Dunn and Gavin Orr won the first round of the winter championships on Saturday on a countback from father-son duo Josh and Michael Kelly.
Club co-captain and member of the match committee Richard Hackwill said the course was fine for the championships.
“The course was wet but playable on Saturday,” he said.
“We (match committee) thought it was best to allow it to dry out and recover by Saturday.”
The monthly medal event is scheduled for Saturday.
The course has dried up well enough for the event to go ahead.
Ladies vice-captain Linda Maher said it was disappointing to have the weekly ladies event cancelled but it was a necessary move.
“We all love our golf,” she said.
“Some of the girls went up to Warracknabeal to make up for not being able to play at Stawell.
“I think everyone understands that we have had some pretty bad weather recently and the course needs some time to dry up.”
