The money went towards vet bills accrued during the cat’s diagnosis and medical procedures.
Treatment involved sedation, x-rays, general anaesthesia, surgical removal of the left forelimb, surgical repair of an umbilical hernia, ongoing pain relief, bandaging, hospitalisation and nursing care.
Stawell veterinarian Lauren Del Rio said the cat would have been owned as a pet prior to it being found on the street.
“She is really friendly, so we believe she was owned as a pet at some point in her life,” she said.
“Sadly cats tend to be seen as disposable because they are so independent.
“They aren’t really looked for when they go missing and this is why we have so many in our care and at the Stawell pound at the moment.”
Ms Del Rio said the Stawell Veterinary Clinic was charging the sale of kittens and cats at cheaper prices to cope with the demand.
“At the moment our kittens are priced at $100 and cats at $50 because there are so many coming through our doors,” she said.
“This obviously leaves us with finances we pay for that we need to cover, so any donations are welcomed and much appreciated.”
