It was the same margin the Hawks lost by at the Magpies’ home ground earlier this season with the win continuing the reigning premiers’ charge towards back-to-back titles.
It was a high-scoring start to the match with both teams hitting the scoreboard regularly.
The visitors edged ahead of the Hawks and went into the first break nine points ahead.
In the second term the home team starting to gain the ascendancy across the ground.
Tatyoon kept Wickliffe-Lake Bolac goalless for the quarter while adding four goals to its score to take a narrow 16-point advantage into the long break.
The third quarters have been an issue for the Hawks in recent weeks and while they could only manage two goals for the term, they were able to keep the Magpies to three goals.
It meant the home team took an eight-point lead into the final quarter with either team capable of finishing with the win.
The Hawks were not to be denied, as they scored consecutive goals to eventually open up a handy lead and finished the term with five goals to one to give the home team the win 16.7.103 to 10.9.69 in the round 13 match.
Adrian Pilgrim continued his positive form in front of goal, finishing the game with six majors to go with his haul of 10 the previous week.
Pilgrim was one of five multiple goalscorers for Tatyoon in an even team performance on its home ground.
Bailey Veale kicked three goals for the Magpies with teammate Brad Keilar and Nigel Otto finishing with two majors each in the loss.
Tim May was named best on ground for Wickliffe-Lake Bolac while Jarrod Blandford was named Tatyoon’s best.
The result means the Hawks move a game clear of the Magpies and into third position with the Magpies in fourth with four games remaining before finals but with the Magpies having a better percentage, they could leapfrog the Hawks in the remaining games.
With Tatyoon having a few tough games still ahead, the win was much needed as the Hawks continue to build after a slow start to the 2017 season.
The Hawks will face Great Western in its next match while Wickliffe-Lake Bolac be out to make amends when it plays its second consecutive away game when it faces Hawkesdale-Macarthur at Hawkesdale in round 14.
Both teams should go in confident of getting the points with the Hawks and Magpies favourites to win their round 14 matches on Saturday.
