With strong performances from the Demons’ senior players, and a swag of those still returning from injury through the reserves, coach Louie Dalziel says there’s a task ahead.
It comes after the team’s 99-point win against Nhill on Saturday which included a 9.2 opening term Dalziel says was his team’s best of the season.
“But Nhill came out after quarter time and halftime and locked down the scoreboard a bit. They have some good players who were starting to get their hands on the footy – and they put it up to us in the second quarter,” Dalziel said.
“We didn’t get it all our own way.”
Billy Lloyd opened his account with 20 possessions in the opening term alone, going on to earn best-on-ground honours for the Demons.
Dalziel said Baillie Batchelor did the job he was asked to do – even with a bloodied lip sidelining him for most of the second quarter.
Billy Hayes and Jake Harrap were the Tigers’ best.
Coach Alan Bennett said late changes – including a shoulder injury to Lachie Pilgrim and the birth of Callan Semple’s child during the week – meant a reshuffle of the squad.
He said converting inside-50 opportunities into a score proved difficult – but he was pleased his team was rewarded for a hard-fought second term.
“In terms of effort, our guys tried really hard for the whole game,” he said.
