The teams will face off in what has become a much anticipated occasion for both clubs.
“We are honoured to be able to play in a game such as this,” Swifts coach Scott Carey said.
“As a coach and a club it is great to have started a tradition with them (Taylors Lake).”
Swifts will wear a special Indigenous designed guernsey by Stawell artist Heidi Chatfield for the second consecutive year.
“Heidi has done a fabulous job again this year and all the boys are excited to be able to wear the jumper,” he said.
The guernsey will be worn by both senior and reserves Swifts football teams.
AFL Wimmera-Mallee general manager Steve McQueen said the game is a great initiative.
“It is great to see the clubs getting this game going and we hope it continues for years to come,” he said.
Swifts Indigenous player Jake Goodes said it is “excellent” how both clubs have supported the game.
“It is great to play in the Indigenous round to bring everyone together, educate people and celebrate our culture,” he said.
“Both clubs are great family clubs. Swifts are great at recognising Indigenous culture, I wouldn’t be here if we weren’t. I am proud to play for them.
“This could be my last indigenous round game since I could be finishing up at the end of the year, so it will be good to celebrate it the way we have.”
The game comes after a week off for both sides. Carey said the break was much needed, but they will be cautious of being sluggish.
“The week off worked really well for us. It is always good to get time off to rejuvenate at this time of the year,” he said.
“We definitely don’t want to start slow no matter who we are playing. Although they are having a tough year and are rebuilding, we need to make sure we don’t give them a head start.”
The Baggies came away with a 117-point victory when the sides last met in round one earlier in the year.
Swifts sit fourth on the ladder, while the Lakers are lamenting in 11th place with only one victory.
The Baggies are in solid form, coming off big wins over Kalkee and the Bombers.
A win on the weekend will nearly guarantee a return to the finals for Swifts, its first senior finals appearance since 2014.
If the Baggies do clinch victory, they could come within one win of third placed Jeparit-Rainbow.
The Baggies will host the game at North Park with first bounce at 2.20pm.
