It’s all about winter warmers and premium red wine this July, with more than 20 of western Victoria’s top wineries all coming together under one roof for the Red Series.
Part of the Ballarat Winter Festival, the Red Series will take place on Saturday, July 29 from 1-6pm at the Ballarat Mining Exchange.
Previously known as Seriously Shiraz, the event celebrates winter in a spectacular way: by showcasing red wines which are popular for their full flavour and warming qualities during the colder months.
“The Red Series is a great opportunity to taste some great wines from Western Victoria in the one ambient indoor space, right in the heart of Ballarat,” said event manager, Kate Davis.
“We changed the name because the Grampians are quite strong with shiraz, and the Pyrenees are strong with cabernet sauvignon, but both are really strong with all their red wine offerings.”

The aim of the event is also to showcase the different varieties of red wine such as grenache, nebbiolo and merlot so visitors can discover new wines and new wineries they may not have encountered before. There’s the opportunity to meet the expert winemakers and learn about how the wines are produced.
But it’s not just all about the wine. There will be delicious food to tempt with the Farmers Arms at Creswick taking charge in the Grazing Paddock. Enjoy French cheese plates and mouth-watering delights including: Millbrook free-range Berkshire pig terrine with pickled vegetables; chicken liver parfait with quince jelly; or Daylesford Meat Co beef short ribs with Mt Pleasant potatoes.
The menu for the event has been designed to complement the premium wines on offer, showcasing some of the best quality produce from the region.
Also in the Grazing Paddock, local acoustic duo TEMPL will be on deck to entertain, allowing you to kick off your shoes and feel the grass between your toes. Inside the Exchange, enjoy the cool tunes from the DJ.
A highlight this year is the People’s Choice competition, giving you the chance to score yourself a BMW for the weekend, supplied by event sponsor Ballarat BMW. It’s simple: vote for your favourite winery. The votes will be tallied, and those who selected the winery with the most votes will then be in the running to win the fantastic prize. You can zoom out to visit the wineries and try their full offerings at the cellar doors.
With tickets likely to be a sell-out, this is an activity not be missed.
“With the inclusion of some of Victoria’s extraordinary wine producers, fabulous music and more food offerings than ever before, we expect 2017 to be the best year yet for the Red Series,” Kate Davis said.
Early bird ticket sales close at 6pm on July 28.
