Grampians Community Health is hosting the Improving Mental Wellbeing workshop and will address issues such as the development of mental illnesses, coping with symptoms and support networks.
VicHealth Manager of mental wellbeing, Irene Verins will present at the workshops.
“The Improving Mental Wellbeing workshop at Stawell will bring together community members and key stakeholders from across the Grampians Pyrenees region,” she said.
“The workshop will identify best ways to keep our community mentally well and work towards improving mental wellbeing and preventing mental illness.
“At VicHealth we see mental wellbeing as the embodiment of social and emotional wellbeing – not merely the absence of mental illness.”
In each year, approximately one in every five Australians will experience a mental illness.
Ms Verins said it was becoming increasingly important to continue developing support networks.
“Mental wellbeing is a dynamic state in which people are able to develop their potential, work productively and creatively, build positive and respectful relationships with others, and meaningfully contribute to the community,” she said.
“The workshop will explore this, focusing on keeping members of our community feeling safe, connected and resilient.
“These discussions will improve and put more value on the mental wellbeing in our community.”
The Workshop will be on Tuesday, June 20 between 10am and 3pm at Stawell Health and Community Centre.
