The Rats led the home team by one goal at the final break but was unable to hang on, losing 34-27 at the final whistle.
The visitors were able to restrict the home team’s scoring early in the game and worked their way into the match to trail 6-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Rats made their move in the second quarter, drawing level with the Eagles at half time.
Ararat was able to score nine goals to eight in the third quarter to take the narrowest of margins into the final quarter.
It was a tense final term for both teams with some unforced errors creeping into the game with the home team able to capitalise on the Rats turnovers to edge ahead late in the game.
From there it was the Eagles who held steady, as Ararat were unable to create enough chances under goal to steal the win away from home.
The Eagles were able to hold on to their lead and finish seven-goal winners at the final whistle to keep their place in the top four on the ladder.
Monique Scott and Harmony Newman were named the Rats best in the round five match.
The loss leaves Ararat in sixth position, still one win outside the top five.
Ararat will be at home on Saturday for the round six match against Horsham Saints at Alexandra Oval.
