Swifts celebrating 40 years on

Swifts will celebrate 40 years since its 1977 premiership when they host Rupanyup on Saturday.

The Baggies won the 1977 Ararat District League grand final by defeating Miners 15.14.104 to 10.8.68.

Organiser and premiership vice-captain Trevor Skurrie said it is great that 40 years on all members of the team are surviving.

“It is great that they are all still surviving, and hopefully they’ll keep on surviving for much longer.”

Most players from the team are expected to attend the celebrations, which will begin on Friday night at the Gift Hotel.  

The team will watch the Swifts game on Saturday, before meeting at Mr Skurrie’s home for a barbecue and longneck beers, celebrating just as they did 40 years ago.
