New people, new work, new surroundings and in some circumstances a completely new town.
I have experienced all of the above in the week gone by.
Growing up in Melbourne my whole life, moving out of home has been an eye-opening experience in itself for me, let alone moving three hours inland along the Western Highway and into Stawell.
With a new job comes nerves, however any nerves I had were quickly quelled on my first day at The Stawell Times-News.
My new colleagues, along with everyone in the town that I have talked to, smiled at or walked by have been more welcoming than I could have imagined.
There is a distinct warmth about the town that seems to lack from big city life.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Melbourne. However there is a romance to a town like Stawell that is hard to avoid.
The old fire station at the top of the hill, the Stawell Gift and a community that work for each other and so many other reasons make this town unique.
As I have gotten to know some of you over the week, I think it is fair if you get to know a little about me, your new Sport Journalist.
I was born and raised in Melbourne, growing up in the inner Western suburbs.
At the end of 2016 I graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Journalism, alongside your resident journalist Anthony Piovesan.
Throughout my time at university I interned at radio stations 3AW and SEN 1116, as well as with Fox Sports, where my passion for sport was fueled.
In these internships I learnt a lot about the importance of sport, not just nationally or in metro areas, but particularly at a local level.
In one week, I have been able to see how passionate the people of Stawell are about their local sport, no matter what that may be.
In Melbourne I am a member of my local lacrosse club.
I know, it’s a bit of an obscure one. I’m happy to take any questions about it, or even to find out what it is.
With my involvement in lacrosse, I have been able to develop a strong sense of community, and hope to share in that passion that many of you hold for sport in Stawell.
I look forward to being able to report on the issues that are important to you, and to share all the successes of your local teams.
