On Sunday night, the first episode of the competitive renovation series’s fifth season had team from across Australia tackle a Lake Fyans shack at the foot of the Grampians.
Fiona Taylor, age 44 and her best friend Nicole turned the house over to their opposing teams in the battle to win $200,000.
Their competitors were not kind in their assessments of the corrugated iron shack, which had no electricity or running water and relied on a long drop toilet.
House Rules host Johanna Griggs said it was the worst house in the history of the show.
Contestant Sean from Tasmania said it was in the middle of nowhere and would take a terrifying amount of work to fix up.
Perth community AFL coordinator Andrew said the shack was like something out of a horror movie .
The show’s producers decided it would be too difficult to renovate the shack and instead decided to bring in a wrecking ball.
Fiona and Nicole had only a few minutes notice that their house would be demolished in front of their eyes.
